What We Build · Custom Homes

A custom home built the whole way through, including the parts other builders skip.

Whether you're building in red-iron steel, cold-formed steel, or a timber frame, Purpose Built designs it, permits it, builds it, and finishes it, as one accountable contractor from the first sketch to the last coat of paint.

Why design-build is the right way to buy a house like this

Hundreds of decisions that all depend on each other.

The floor plan shapes the structure, the structure shapes the budget, the budget shapes the finish, and the site quietly constrains all three. Design-build exists because those decisions are better made by one team holding the whole picture, in one room, at one time. That is what you are buying: a single group of people who design it, engineer it, permit it, build it, and finish it, and who can therefore tell you on any given Tuesday exactly where your project stands and what it will cost.

What we do instead

One team accountable at every stage

01

Design

Architectural design and engineering built around how you'll actually live in the home, not a generic floor plan.

02

Permitting

We carry the permit application and inspections. You don't learn your county's building department the hard way.

03

Site planning & excavation

Grading, access, and utilities sited for your actual lot, including remote or mountain terrain.

04

Concrete foundation

Engineered for your snow load, frost line, and soil, not a one-size-fits-all pour.

05

Frame erection

Red-iron steel, cold-formed steel, or timber frame, whichever system actually fits your design and site.

06

Sheeting, doors & windows

A fully enclosed, weathertight envelope, closed in and dry before the weather turns.

07

Interior finish

Electrical, plumbing, insulation, drywall, custom finish carpentry, and the details that make it a home instead of a building.

08

One contract

One schedule, one team you can actually call. That is the difference you are buying.

09

Barndominiums & steel homes

A steel-framed home with clear-span space, engineered and finished as a home. See how we build them.

Steel-framed or timber-framed

We build the right system for your project

Some clients come to us wanting the clear-span space, snow performance, and low maintenance of a steel-framed home. Others want a timber-framed home with the warmth and character that steel doesn't offer everywhere. We build both, and we'll tell you honestly which one actually fits your design, your site, and your budget, and we explain the reasoning so the decision is genuinely yours.

Why steel vs. timber

Barndominiums done right

A steel-framed home with clear-span living space and the exposed structure as a design feature, engineered and finished as a home throughout. It is a large share of what we build.

Built around your purpose

Why you're building becomes the design brief, and because we stay on through the finish it is still the design brief on the day you move in.

Not value-engineered away

Your purpose doesn't get quietly cut by a subcontractor who never heard it.

Straight Answers

01

Yes. We'll recommend the system that fits your design, site, and budget, and explain the tradeoffs honestly rather than defaulting to one material.

02

We handle the finish. Structure and interior are one scope, one contract, and one team, so nothing falls between them.

03

Bonner, Boundary, and Kootenai counties in Idaho, and Flathead, Lincoln, and Sanders counties in Montana.

Tell us why you're building. We'll build the how.

Bring us the land, the vision, and roughly when you want to be in it.
