A note from the founder

Hi, I'm Jake.

I started Purpose Built Construction to build the way I would want my own family's home built: planned carefully, built right, and finished completely, by people who pick up the phone.

Today our professional crew designs and builds custom homes, shops, and commercial buildings across North Idaho and Northwest Montana. Steel is our specialty, and we are every bit as comfortable with a traditional stick-built home when that is the right answer for you.

Look around, see how we work, and when you are ready, tell us what you are dreaming up. I would like to hear it.

Our philosophy

The perfect building is the one made for you.

A building should fit the person who lives or works in it: what you want, how you live, and where you are headed. So we do not start with a catalog or a template. We start with you, and we shape the building to the desire, the lifestyle, and the goals you bring to the table.

That is the idea behind the name. Purpose Built began as a vision, and the vision came from a promise.

Custom buildings for custom living. Which, in other words, is living the dream.
What guides every job

Four values that run the jobsite

01

Precision

Do it right the first time. Quality without shortcuts, from the foundation to the final finish.

02

Respect

Your project matters to us. We treat every building the way we would treat our own, because you are the one who will live in it.

03

Integrity

We tell you the truth about schedule, cost, and scope before you sign, and we do the right thing when it is the inconvenient thing.

04

Grit

Mountain builds and remote sites throw real problems at a schedule. We solve them instead of stalling the job.

Who we are

Proof, not adjectives.

Building something this important is a decision you should be able to check. Here is what stands behind the Purpose Built name.

The process

A true white glove partner, from the first sketch to the final walkthrough.

The best way to take the stress out of a build is to know what happens next, and who is handling it. Here is the path every project follows, with one team carrying it the whole way.

  1. 01
    Plan

    Conversation and discovery

It starts with a simple conversation. Call, email, or send a request through our 3D designer, whichever is easiest. You do not need drawings, only an idea.

We get clear on what you need, what you want to invest, and when you want to be in.

  2. 02
    Design

    Concept and real design

We turn the idea into a design you can see: floor plans, elevations, and a 3D model of your building on your land, shaped around how you live and refined with you until it is right.

  3. 03
    Permit

    Engineering and permits

Your structure is engineered for your site's snow load, wind, and soil. Then we carry the permit application and inspections through your county, so you never have to learn the building department the hard way.

  4. 04
    Build

    Dirt work and concrete

Clearing, grading, access, drainage, and utilities planned for your actual lot, then a foundation engineered to your soil and frost depth, poured and inspected before anything goes up.

  5. 05
    Build

    Framing

Red iron, cold-formed steel, or traditional stick framing goes up with a professional crew, set to the engineering and checked as it rises. This is the moment your drawings become a building you can walk into.

    Build

    The building envelope

Roof, siding, doors, and windows close the building in and make it weathertight, so the interior work happens warm, dry, and on schedule, whatever the season is doing.

    Finish

Interior and exterior finishes, then handoff

Electrical, plumbing, insulation, drywall, cabinetry, trim, tile, paint, and hardware, inside and out. Then we walk the finished building with you, the one we designed together at the start.

Our promise

We do quality work, and we are not finished until you are satisfied.

That is the whole promise, and it is the one we hold ourselves to on every job. Building is a big decision and a big trust. We intend to earn it, and to keep earning it from the first call to the last walkthrough.

Quality you can see

Careful work from the foundation to the trim, built to code and built to last.

Straight answers

The truth about cost, schedule, and scope, before you sign and all the way through.

We stay until it is right

Your satisfaction is how we measure the job, so we keep working until the building is what you pictured.
